In Memory

Dan Arena

ARENA, Daniel Giotto
Sept 29, 1957-Mar 17, 2005
He was a man of few words, a lot of action and a great sense of humor. We lost Dan suddenly on the morning of March 17th. He grew up in Rancho Cordova, moved to Kelsey 14 years ago to raise his family. A devoted father, husband, son, brother and friend. He is survived by his two sons, Tony and Jon, the pride and joy of his life, his wonderful wife Tina, his mother Marian, sisters Barbara and Carol and his brother Steven. Dan was a firefighter. During his career he served with the Garden Valley Fire Department, fought fires on the oilrigs of Texas, with the Hot Shots of Nevada, the US Forest Service and the California Division of Forestry and BLM. He was also a private contractor for fire suppression throughout the western United States. Dan spent his life helping others in need. We are grateful for this man of strength and fair play who enriched all our lives. Services will be held at the Cool Community Church, 863 Cave Valley Rd. Cool, CA. on March 25th, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. Fire Departments form around the county will attend in uniform and engines in a celebration and mass for this great man. Dan's family and fellow firefighters would like to thank you in advance for your prayers and support. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions for his son's college tuition, to the Dan Arena Memorial Fund, El Dorado Savings Bank, 6323 Hwy 193, Georgetown, CA. 95634.

I lived in Placerville until 2007.  I used to go to Fit for Life on Missouri Flat Road, and I used to see this guy there that looked so familiar.  When I realized who it was it took me a couple of weeks to get up the nerve to say "Hi" and re-introduce myself.  He was the same Danny I remembered from high school, very quiet and unassuming.  He told me his job was to fight wildland fires, no easy task up there!  Anyway, I was so glad that I took the time to say hello, just a couple of weeks later I read in the local paper about the accident that took his life.

Many blessings, Danny.
